Exploring Lake Tahoe in Just 72 Hours

If you find yourself with only three days to experience the beauty and adventure of Lake Tahoe, it’s time to get creative! Whether you’re an outdoor enthusiast, a beach bum, or a culture seeker, there is something for everyone in Lake Tahoe. Here are some tips to maximize your time and make the most of your trip.

Day 1: Outdoor Adventure

On day one of your three-day trip to Lake Tahoe, it’s time to explore the great outdoors! Start by heading to Emerald Bay State Park where you can take in breathtaking views with a hike around Vikingsholm Castle. Make sure you bring your bathing suit so that you can take a dip in the crystal clear waters at Eagle Point Beach. If you’re feeling up for an even more adventurous afternoon, rent kayaks or paddleboards from South Tahoe Standup Paddle and spend a few hours on the lake. Once you’ve worked up an appetite, grab dinner at Dog & Bear Tavern in Tahoma. It's casual dining for an upscale palette and never disappoints.

Day 2: Relaxation & Beach Day

Spend day two of your Lake Tahoe adventure getting some sun and relaxation in Meeks Bay. Spend the morning lounging on the white sand beach (or take a leisurely swim in the lake) before heading over to Cult Burger , West Lake Tahoe's newest burger joint . Cult Burger is a neighborhood burger joint inspired by the wild west, brought to you by Chef Quinten Frye. With over 20 years of experience in farm-to-table cooking and whole-animal butchery, it’s safe to say this ain’t their first rodeo and you will be impressed. They serve up an array of juicy burgers, hand cut fries, craft sodas, and frozen custards all day long. After lunch, rent bikes from Olympic Bike Shop and explore the West Lake Tahoe Bike Path. You can cruise nearly half the distance from North to South Tahoe on this ride – beginning in Tahoe City and ending at Sugar Pine State Park. Plans are in the works to continue the path to Meeks Bay. The ride uses a combination of bike paths and neighborhood streets passing through the communities of: Tahoe City, Tahoe Tavern, Sunnyside, Pineland, Timberland, Tahoe Pines, Homewood, Chambers Lodge, Tahoma, and Sugar Pine Point State Park. Along the way, there are many places to eat, rent watercraft and bicycles and just relax by the water’s edge.. Once the sun begins to set, head over to West Shore Cafe for sunset cocktails - their dock is perfect for watching the sunset!

Day 3: Shopping & Sightseeing

Start off your final day of exploration by visiting Emerald Bay State Park again - this time via boat tour with Adventures at Lake Tahoe! From there it's time to explore downtown South Lake Tahoe - start by grabbing brunch at Naked Fish before hitting up Heavenly Village Shopping Center for some retail therapy. After shopping ‘til you drop (make sure you check out Roxy!), head over to Heavenly Mountain Resort Gondola Ride where you can take in stunning views while riding above South Lake Tahoe. For dinner tonight we recommend Basecamp Pizza Co., known for their delicious wood-fired pizzas!

With just 72 hours in Lake Tahoe, making sure that you make use of every minute is key! By taking advantage of all that this beautiful destination has to offer – from outdoor adventures and beach days to shopping and sightseeing – your three day trip will be one filled with memories of your special time at the Lake.
